Several
children lost their parents during the war. A United Methodist
minister, Rev. Emmanuel Bailey, serving in the Detroit Annual
Conference saw the need to erect a home for orphaned children.
He discussed his vision with Bishops Judith Craig and Arthur F.
Kulah. Both bishops welcomed the idea. Consequently, the
Liberia Annual Conference adopted a resolution to create a
children’s village. There are over 100 children who are being
cared for at the village. Many United Methodist churches in the
United States and individuals in Liberia are providing support
for the orphanage. But there is need to improve the environment
for the children where they will live, play and study in the
name of Jesus Christ. A classroom building, a clinic, a chapel,
a playground and a fence around the compound will be just fine
for them.
